Stop repeating yourself

A free live workshop for parents of kids 6 to 12: a simple plan for more cooperation, without yelling.

"Shoes, please. Shoes. SHOES!" If you've ever heard yourself say it five times before 8 a.m., this evening is for you. You'll leave with a plan to ask once, stay calm, and get more cooperation in your hardest moment of the day.

Does this sound familiar?

"I asked five times. Then I yelled. Then I felt awful."School mornings
"Five more minutes!" ...and the screen still isn't off.Screens off
"Teeth, pyjamas, bed." Every night, the same battle.Bedtime

This is so common, and it's not your fault. Kids 6 to 12 are still learning to switch tasks, handle disappointment and manage big feelings. And you're doing it tired, rushed, and often alone. You don't need the perfect answer. You need a good next step.

3 big ideas, made practical

No theory overload. Three ideas you'll remember, each with real examples and exact words to use.

idea 1

Understand before you ask

  • Why "not listening" is a message, not who your child is
  • What you might be bringing to the moment (hurry, stress, fear)
idea 2

Ask once, in a way they can follow

  • 3 quick checks before you ask
  • How to turn chores into play
  • What to do if it's still stuck
idea 3

Build cooperation before the hard moment

  • Simple connection habits, like the bedtime question and the worry jar
  • How to make the rules together, with real examples (screen-time checklist, recipe binder)

You'll leave with

Your plan for tomorrow

One page, filled in during the workshop: what you'll try in your hardest moment.

The Cooperation Toolbox

Printable cards: playful chores, connection habits, and rule templates to build with your child.

A 7-day tracker

A simple way to check, over one week, if your plan is helping.

Is this for you?

Yes, if you...

  • Have a child between 6 and 12
  • Feel like you repeat yourself all day
  • Want to yell less, and feel less guilty after
  • Are ready to try one small change at home
  • Parent alone, together, or across two homes

Maybe not, if...

  • Your child is a toddler or a teen
  • You're looking for a diagnosis or therapy
  • You're in a crisis right now (please reach out to local services)
Amélie Descôteaux, smiling

Hi, I'm Amélie

I'm a social worker. I've walked alongside many families, from northern communities to private practice, through crises and everyday struggles.

What I've learned: when a child won't cooperate, there's usually something underneath. When parents understand it, and know their next step, the whole family changes. No blame, no perfect script. Just practical tools that fit real, busy evenings.

See you there, Amélie

Questions

Is it really free?

Yes. At the end, I'll share a small 4-week program for parents who want support to make it stick. No pressure, and the workshop is complete on its own.

Is there a replay?

No. This one is live only. A small live group means I can answer your real questions in the moment, and you build your plan with us as we go. If you can't make it, register anyway: you'll be the first to hear about the next one.

Do I need to turn my camera on?

No. Camera and mic are optional. You can follow along quietly.

Do I need to download Teams?

No. You can join from your browser on a computer or phone.

How do I send my question?

Reply to your confirmation email. Questions are grouped into common themes and answered live, without names. Please leave out names and identifying details. If you or your child are unsafe right now, contact local emergency services.

Is this therapy?

No. This is educational content, not therapy. If your child needs an assessment or support, I'll point you to the right kind of help.

One evening. One plan. Fewer battles.
